“Of course motivation is not permanent. But then, neither is bathing; but it is something you should do on a regular basis.” – Zig Ziglar
Motivation comes and goes but it's what moves us forward towards our goals so when it wanes I take action! Here are a few things to look at if you aren't feeling motivated:
1. Are you too comfortable? Yes, we can become too comfortable, our paycheck meets our needs things aren't demanding massive action so we can just coast along. That's absolutely fine if that is aligned for you but for many people in that spot something feels missing...
The answer is to stretch yourself, set some new goals, how about paying off your house early, planning a dream vacation, up-leveling your saving, and giving goals? Take some time and set some crazy-awesome new goals!
2. What are you feeding your mind? I've been watching a lot of Grace & Frankie, although super fun, I think it's cutting into my reading, journaling, and staying inspired activities that I usually do in the evening. How you feel physically is a result of what you put in your body, and how you feel mentally/emotionally/spiritually is a result of what you allow into your mind.
3. When was the last time you learned something new? Among my personal policies are "always be selling" and "always be learning". Learning something new will almost always jump-start my motivation! This doesn't have to be business-related either, we need to use different parts of our brain to rest and refresh.
4. Do you need a break? A 30-minute walk outside, an afternoon off with a good book, or a weekend of fun can give you the reset you need. Then review your goals and get back to it! We have natural energy cycles that come into play as well and giving yourself what you need usually leads to feeling motivated faster than "pushing through". Watch out though because it's easy to hide here and procrastinate.
